Repairing the lawn without digging

Hot summer, bare patches - how to repair your lawn

The hot summer has taken its toll and unfortunately it has left its mark on many lawns. A lush green carpet is now brown or, in the worst case, has even developed gaps. But even when it's not so hot, it is quickly colonized by moss or weeds. However, the solution that avoids the tedious digging with a spade is quite simple.

Brown patches in the lawn - initial preparations to save the lawn

First, the lawn should be mowed to a length of 3.5 - 4 cm. Then apply lawn fertilizer to prepare the lawn for the upcoming procedure. With warm temperatures and regular watering, visible results can be seen after just 2 weeks.

Once the lawn has grown back, it should be cut again. The best way to do this is to use a powerful lawn mower to cut the turf as short as possible.

Now scarify the entire area, once lengthwise and once crosswise.

The blades should be adjusted so that they protrude a few millimetres into the ground. We then remove the moss and weeds from the surface. This process should be repeated until the soil has been cleared of everything that hinders the growth of our dream lawn.

The new seed can then be applied. This should be a special mixture for renovation. A spreader wagon ensures even and complete distribution.

Finally, a starter lawn fertilizer is applied and then a thin layer (5 mm) of plant or potting soil is spread and distributed with our Rasenrakel . The fresh layer of potting soil ensures that the seeds do not dry out.

The last step is to water the lawn generously. This helps the seeds to germinate more quickly.

A lawn roller can also be used to slightly compact the surface.

Tip: The lawn must never become too dry in the coming weeks. Especially in warm weather, you should not lose sight of the carefully cultivated area.

Under optimal conditions, the lawn looks like new after 2 months :-)

Did you know?

Scarifying is derived from the English language and is made up of "vertical" and "cut". It therefore stands for the vertical cutting of the ground, in which, for example, weeds and their roots are destroyed and brought to the surface.
