Why should I sand my lawn?

What has been contributing to a dense and lush green on soccer fields and golf courses for many years, has long been a must for professionals in the home garden as well: sanding the lawn.

Because the more the lawn is used, the more the soil becomes compacted and also uneven. This happens quite automatically over the years, but also already when building a new house. For it is when heavy vehicles drive over the future garden over and over again, the newly-built homeowner is surprised when seeding that the desired result is not achieved.

If you love and care for your lawn, you should treat your greenery to a sand treatment at least twice a year, both when it's new and afterwards.

The results after sanding the lawn are amazing:

Rasenrakel

Compacted soil is loosened by sanding
Heavy soils become more permeable
No waterlogging, as the sand serves as drainage
Fewer problems with moss and weeds
✔ Oxygen gets to the roots better
Uneven surfaces are leveled and a more even surface results

What happens when you squeegee the lawn?

Rasenrakel Lawn sand

In the first step, the sand applied and processed with the Rasenrakel levels out unevenness. Where there are slight hollows, the lawn sand settles (Fig. 1). Where there are no unevennesses, the Rasenrakel pushes it on level. The result is a more even surface.

Over the next few weeks, the sand will gradually seep into the soil underneath and this loosening (because, to put it simply, small cavities are created everywhere between the sand grains) will now provide natural drainage and more oxygen in the root zone of the lawn (Fig. 2).

The result:

Now that you no longer see the sand on the surface, the first successes will appear very quickly, which you will also see on the plant. Very quickly you will notice a lush, strong green of the plants and the roots can "breathe" properly again. The lawn will not only become more even, because the sand levels the hollows, but also denser and stronger.
